A Different Place
A Different Place
Original mixed media on canvas | 100 × 50 cm
A Different Place is an earthy, atmospheric abstract that feels somewhere between a landscape and a memory of one.
Layers of warm umber, deep brown, charcoal, stone and soft cream move across the canvas, building into ridges, sweeping lines and heavily textured areas. Above them, the painting becomes lighter and quieter, giving a wonderful sense of space and distance.
There are hints of hills, rock, shoreline or weathered ground, but nothing is fixed. Depending on how you look at it, it can feel ancient and rugged, or strangely calm. Somewhere known, perhaps, or somewhere you haven’t been yet.
The texture is a huge part of this piece. Raised areas, cracks, scraped surfaces and softer passages catch the light differently throughout the day, giving the painting a physical quality that photographs can never quite capture.
For me, A Different Place has a feeling of escape. Of looking beyond where you are now and imagining somewhere else.
