There are some paintings that take a while to find their way, and then there are the ones that seem to arrive with an energy of their own.
Unleashed was one of those.
It’s big, dramatic and full of movement. Layers of deep earthy colour, charcoal, muted gold and flashes of blue-green build into a landscape that feels almost caught between a storm and the moment the light finally breaks through.
I didn’t want to make this one too neat or too controlled. I wanted to let the paint move, build the texture, leave some of the roughness there and allow the painting to become what it needed to be.
There’s darkness in it, but for me this isn’t a dark painting. It’s about the light finding its way through.
And perhaps that’s why I love it so much.
It feels powerful without shouting. Wild in places, quiet in others, imperfect and full of atmosphere. The closer you get, the more there is to discover in the layers, marks and textures.
Unleashed is a painting about movement, freedom and that feeling of finally letting go of whatever you’ve been holding onto.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need.
